I'm want to learn how to make video games and it is very important to know computer code. What are some of the best free (or cheap) resources for teaching yourself to code?

P.S. I already know about codecademy.com

If you know nothing about coding then I would start here. You will design some games using the Python programming language - https://www.coursera.org/course/interactivepython1 and follow that course with https://www.coursera.org/course/interactivepython2

This is another class to look at - https://www.coursera.org/course/gameprogramming

This uses the C# language and the Microsoft XNA framework.

If you are looking for a game engine you could start with Unity - http://unity3d.com/

Another online learning platform is edX - https://www.edx.org/

You can also check out Microsoft's Virtual academy - http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/

I've been coding for many years. The best answer I can give you is to pick a game engine you're most comfortable with, learn that engine and see which language you need to be studying for it because each one usually takes a different one. Some are C#, but some are Ruby, some are Java and so on. It really depends on what you're doing and what kind of game you want to make. But I would say, start with a game engine and then go on from there because many of the Engines have alot of great forums with tons of resources and plenty of people willing to help you learn the coding languages for free.

I don't know what the "best resources" are, but a Google search for "perl tutorial" should bring up some good results.
