Buying the Raspberry Pi was a great step to start learning. You are going to want to learn Python and also learn how to use the Raspberry Pi GPIO library.

You can download the library here! http://code.google.com/p/raspberry-gpio-python/

Python is a pretty simple language which can be learned and used effectively in about two weeks to a month's time. I started learning Python at this site: http://www.codecademy.com/tracks/python

Codecademy is a great place to begin any programming language. They have many courses that are easy going and pretty simple, there are some challenging ones though. In my experience, programming can be very frustrating when you're trying something for the first time, such as reading information from a file, nevertheless just keep trying and keep learning!

To learn programming a good start would be Delphi which is used on school level to teach the basics. Delphi is a very good structured program to learn Programming. That is currently what I am using to learn to code. My friend that is learning Java he is also learning Delphi with me is that Delphi is a very nice program in comparison to Java because it has structure and it teaches you good programming, order, structure, etc. He said that he doesn't like how unstructured and unorganised Java is, to him it isn't logical to program so unstructured in Java.

The point I have is start with Delphi and then learning anything else would be a lot easier. (I see so many "Need help in Java" that I added the part of my friend)~ I do not know the other programs but I would still recommend Delphi for basics. (Or even Scratch if you are really hopeless).

It relies upon on what style of programming you plan on doing. If that is a few form of scripting which you extremely pick to do, then all you will probable pick is a text cloth editor. in case you pick to write down in a compiled language you would be wanting an editor and a compiler. truly do a splash diagnosis on line to compliment what style of programming you're proceeding on gaining knowledge of, then ask returned... in spite of the incontrovertible fact that via the time you have finished sufficient examine to comprehend what you pick to do, you will probable no longer ought to ask!
