Creating Sub domains?

I just recently registered a new domain name. I am wondering how I would create a sub domain (ex. email.example.com), and have it transfer to an outside webpage. (ex gmail.com). I am using xampp for my web server and using EditDNS for my dns server. I have already tried creating a CNAME record but when I attempt to go to the created sub domain, I receive a Server Not Found error in firefox. Any help anyone could provide would ge greatly appriciated.

why dont you just add the sub domain, and then make an index.html on it which will redirect it to gmail.com in javascript, for example:

sub.mydomain.com - index.html:

Dear friend, you need a web hosting service to be able to make your subdomains or display your vweb pages. Domain is just a name and it doesn't mean having a website.

If you want to start a website I suggest you to purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

And any bad web hosting service would trouble you for a long period. At first, try to choose a reliable service to get rid of the subsequent problems.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime.

You can go there through the address below:

http://bluehost2008.atspace.com

Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view:

- Multi-awarded

- Free Domain Forever

- 1500 Gigabyte Hosting Space

- 15000 GIGS of Transfer

- Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names)

- 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts

- CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL

- 2000/2002 Front Page Extensions

- Free Site Builder

- 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support

- Free Search Engine Submission

They offer an installing service called "Fantastico". By using this service, you can easily create your own forum, photo gallery, shopping carts etc. They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any creating website programs.

******IMPORTANT*******

* This service is awarded as the best Web Host 2008.

* If you sign up for this service you will have $100 credits to advertise your created website with google & yahoo search engines for free!

* If you are beginner and don't exactly know what technical features you need for setting up your website, I recommend you BlueHost as a full-featured service which fulfills all your requirements.

Good Luck!

In undemanding words: you could inform your sub-domain names the place to pass - to DNS ( area call server) So, whoever is the registrar on your sub-domain names, could have the DNS of the revealed website. locate out the godaddy DNS on your area registered and upload that DNS to the different sub-domain names. in many situations stars with NS1. or NS2.

In my opinion you should just transfer to an affordable web hosting company that offers cPanel...which is a control panel that allows you to set up sub-somains with a few clicks of a mouse. Easy as that!
