If you are not using a canned cms package like one of the ones you mentioned and you want to give the client the ability to update their own site, then do it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.



If you have the capability of writing it yourself, and you feel it will benefit your client without many drawbacks, then by all means do it. I would recommend that you do backups of any involved databases just in case something happens. It would also be a good idea to provide a little instruction so that the client knows how to use the cms and recommend that they contact you immediately if they are not sure of what to do.
